Remove text formatting

Paste text from a website or ChatGPT, then copy it as plain text for Google Docs or any other app.

Fonts, colors, bold and link styling are removed automatically. Your words and line breaks stay intact.

Your text stays in this browser tab. It is never uploaded or saved by this tool.

Why remove text formatting?

When you copy from a web page, a chat app or a document, the clipboard usually carries two versions: rich text with fonts, colors, sizes, links and backgrounds, and plain text. Most editors paste the rich version, so text arrives in the wrong font or on a gray background. This tool keeps only the plain text: your words and line breaks.

Paste into the box with Paste from clipboard or your usual shortcut. The box is a plain text field, so it cannot hold formatting at all. Then click Copy plain text and paste wherever you need it, such as Google Docs, Word, an email or a form. Your text stays in this browser tab and is never uploaded or saved.

Remove formatting FAQ

How do I paste without formatting?
Most apps have a shortcut for it. On Windows and Linux, press Ctrl+Shift+V in Chrome, Edge, Google Docs and many other apps. On a Mac, press Cmd+Shift+Option+V, which works in most apps and in Chrome; in Google Docs, Cmd+Shift+V also works. If an app has no such shortcut, paste here first and copy the plain text back.
How do I remove formatting in Google Docs or Word?
In Google Docs, select the text and press Ctrl+\ or Cmd+\, or choose Format, then Clear formatting. In Word, select the text and press Ctrl+Space to clear character formatting, or use the Clear All Formatting button on the Home tab. To avoid the problem, paste without formatting in the first place.
Why does text copied from ChatGPT keep its formatting?
When you select and copy a reply, the clipboard holds rich text with headings, bold, lists and code styles, and editors such as Google Docs and Word paste that version. Pasting here keeps only the plain text. Markdown characters that are part of the text itself, such as asterisks or hash signs, stay as typed.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The text is read from your clipboard as plain text and stays in this browser tab. It is never uploaded or saved by this tool, and it is cleared when you click Clear or close the page. The clipboard is only read when you click Paste from clipboard or paste into the box yourself.
