What the webcam test checks
This test shows whether your browser can use your camera and how well it performs. You get a live preview, the resolution the camera actually delivers next to the one requested, and a live frames-per-second count. If the frame rate drops below 15, the status warns you. You can switch cameras, try presets from 360p to 4K or enter a custom size.
Mirror, zoom, brightness, contrast and saturation controls adjust the preview, and you can take a test photo and download it as a PNG. The video is processed in this tab and is never recorded or uploaded. The camera turns off when you click Stop test or leave the page.

Webcam test FAQ
- Why is my webcam not detected?
- Check that the browser has camera permission and that your system privacy settings allow it. On Windows, a camera can often be used by only one app at a time, so close video call apps and reload the page. For an external webcam, try another USB port, and check for a privacy shutter or a camera switch on the laptop.
- Why is my webcam blurry or slow?
- Low light is the most common cause: the camera lengthens its exposure, which lowers the frame rate and adds blur. Add light in front of you, clean the lens and give autofocus a moment to settle. The FPS count shows whether the frame rate is the problem; below 15 frames per second, motion looks choppy.
- Which resolutions does my webcam support?
- Choose a preset, such as 720p or 1080p, and compare the requested resolution with the actual resolution. The browser asks for the size you pick and the camera returns the closest mode it supports, so if 4K comes back as 1920×1080, 1080p is likely its maximum. Frame rates can drop at higher resolutions.
- Is my webcam video recorded or uploaded?
- No. The live feed is shown and measured in this browser tab only, and nothing is recorded. A test photo stays on your device: it remains in the page until you delete it or leave, and it is saved as a file only if you click Download.
